Together with the Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering (HPI), Seerene is conducting a study on the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in software engineering. The one-year study is part of the new AI Lab for Software Engineering at HPI. The aim is to identify those AI approaches for the management of complex software projects with which the greatest possible efficiency potentials can be realized. For this purpose, the development processes of real IT projects are analyzed. As a result, participants receive a wide range of support in setting up their own AI strategy. Interested companies can apply with their IT projects for participation until 6th December.
"We know from experience with our Seerene Software Analytics platform that there is often an efficiency potential of 30 percent and more if you create a common basis for end-to-end management of software processes across all sub-disciplines of software development - in other words, from requirements specification and code programming to testing and delivery," explains Johannes Bohnet, Managing Director and Head of Studies at Seerene. "But in complex projects, only with artificial intelligence it is possible to follow the constantly changing framework conditions of software development projects and predict the consequences. Ultimately, a powerful early warning system is created to identify possible problem situations during the course of the project before they become acute."
Seerene and HPI intend to use the participating projects to research further AI methods, for example for planning the deployment of development teams, determining source code complexity, technical fault and software quality, or for transforming legacy systems and vendor steering. Through AI-based risk and failure analysis and AI-based benchmarking, what-if simulations should also make it possible to make concrete statements about costs and expenses.
"Even in Fortune 500 companies, the development of complex software systems has so far been handled more as a form of art than an engineering science," as summarized by Prof. Dr. Jürgen Döllner, head of the AI Lab for Software Engineering at HPI. "For the first time, AI provides robust approaches for analyzing and evaluating software and its development processes. The methods examined in the study include repository mining, machine learning, big data analytics and software visualization.
Interested companies are invited to participate in the study if they want to learn more about the potential of AI for their own software engineering. The submitted software development projects should have been running for at least two years and involve ten or more developers. The selected companies will receive fast access to the future topic of AI in software engineering with guidelines for setting up their own AI strategy, an analysis and evaluation of the software development based on the submitted project, and benchmarking within the field of participants. Other services in return for a contribution to costs include workshops on AI methods and procedures, access to the HPI with its AI research and AI experts, joint PR arrangements, and the identification of potential for cooperation and funding.
Interested companies can submit their application by 6th December 2019 at the latest with a short project description using the online form at www.ai4se.de . The study participants will be announced by HPI and Seerene on the 15th of December. The study will begin on the 1st of January 2020.
